What is Youth Mental Health First Aid?

With this 2-day, internationally accredited course, you can become a youth mental health first aider.

The course is for those who teach, work, live and care for children and young people aged 8 – 18 years. Delivered by qualified trainers, the course enables people to better identify, understand and help a young person who may be developing a mental health problem.

The course won’t teach you to be a therapist, but it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

But more than that, the 2-Day course aims to give you the information and skills to look after your own mental health so that you can set an example for young people. By giving you the tools to have these conversations, we hope to empower you to create a mentally healthy, supportive environment in your family, school, peer group or community.

The course is divided into four manageable chunks: What is Mental Health; Depression and Anxiety; Suicide and Psychosis; Self-harm and Eating Disorders.

The course aims to provide information, tools and techniques that you can use in a real-life setting.
